Photography

When the pandemic hit and many shows were canceled, I delved a little deeper into photography. I found myself alone in the woods even more than my normal gender queer elf self usually is, and capturing the beauty, peace and brilliance of nature in a way that speaks to others and demands our attention to notice, and perhaps change our relationship to it, became a hobby of mine.

While I’m still an ameature with only the basics, I’ve been afraid to share my photos because of my lack of formal knowledge, fancy equipment and overall worth. But so much of why I got into photography was to share slivers of beauty that exist in the places my body has roamed. In the process, it’s taught me a thing or two about avoiding the present moment or not, and it’s also taught me how to look at the same experience from many different perspectives and angles.

It’s rarely the things I say, and usually the things I don’t say, that create the chasms between me and others. My art, regardless of the median, has been an attempt to build that bridge, despite my strongest desires of wanting to hide. The point of my photography is to remind us of all of the powers greater than ourselves, how little control we really have, and how important it is to be in right relationship with this land. As our world collapses and burns, it’s the most sacred and precious land that we need to fall back into. It’s an attempt to demand that we build a reciprocal relationship with the earth, and with one another. And it’s just pretty.
